The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) welcomes physician inquiries about medical management problems regardless of whether these problems result in referrals. The purpose is to help the physicians of the state in any way possible with any special expertise available.
Routine obstetrical care at UAMS is primarily provided by our division of General Obstetrics & Gynecology. For women with no obstetrical complications, the General OBGYN group will be their primary physicians. However, for some women, special needs arise either before or during pregnancy that require additional care from Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialists.
Patients with either a newly diagnosed obstetrical complication or with a medical history potentially complicating a current pregnancy, will be managed by the Maternal-Fetal Medicine faculty or co-managed jointly by the General OBGYN physicians. Our board-certified MFM specialists at UAMS provide care to patients at both a primary and a referral level.
UAMS provides a state-of-the-art Labor and Delivery (L&D) service to make the uncomplicated delivery a pleasant and memorable experience for the patient and family. At the same time, the L&D suite is capable of handling the most complicated pregnancies and provides the patient with the reassurance that she and her baby are being delivered in the safest environment possible. The faculty physicians work closely and cooperatively with the highly-skilled anesthesiologists, pediatric specialists and internists including cardiologists, endocrinologists, nephrologists and others.
